The Protect Progress PAC, an affiliate of the Fairshake organisation, has recently allocated over $189,000 towards media expenses to support Representative Jake Auchincloss in his re-election bid for Massachusetts’ 4th congressional district.
This expenditure marks a notable attempt by the crypto-backed PAC to shape the outcome of the 2026 elections, particularly as Auchincloss faces competition in the Democratic primary scheduled for September 5.
Significant funding history and implications
Fairshake made a name for itself in the 2024 election cycle by channelling over $130 million into political ads and media. However, the latest spending underscores a diminished focus compared to their previous electoral campaign efforts.
Despite the lower investment, the PAC remains financially robust, reportedly holding $122 million in cash reserves ahead of the upcoming midterms in November.
Controversy surrounding crypto funding
Alongside the media spending figures, the campaign has faced scrutiny. Democratic challenger Jason Poulos expressed concerns over Auchincloss accepting approximately $77,500 directly from sources within the crypto industry since 2020.
Poulos highlighted the implications of such funding in an open letter, calling for Auchincloss to denounce the Protect Progress PAC’s attempts to influence the primary elections, claiming the PAC’s tactics involved the use of AI-generated mailers.

Massachusetts is nearing the conclusion of its primary season, with the state being one of the last in the U.S. to hold primaries before the general election. Upcoming primaries are also scheduled in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Delaware.
Fairshake’s spokesperson, Geoff Vetter, noted the organization’s confidence in its strategy, indicating ongoing engagement in electoral races leading up to the November elections. He stated that the PAC would remain active in influencing outcomes across various electoral races.
